What is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is part of a class of medications called GLP-1 receptor agonists. This is a peptide which is much like a hormone that our bodies naturally creates.
How does it work?
It slows stomach empying, which means the food sits for a longer period in the stomach, resulting in feeling fuller for longer, and eating less portions. It also decreases appetite by acting on centers in the brain as well as regulating blood sugar, which helps with food cravings.
semaglutide at 2.4 mg is effective and safe across a wide spectrum of patients with obesity who might be prescribed this drug, whether you are older or younger, higher BMI or lower, and regardless of race/ethnicity.
Safety and Side Effects
Less than 2 % of patients experience side effects. It is considered a safe medication. Semaglutide side effects can include:
If patients develop any side effects, they can be easily managed with over the counter or prescribed medication by us.
Our patients see an average of 2.5 lbs of weight loss per week. The average of total percent weight loss ranges from 15 to 20 percent. If an Individual is 200 lbs, 20 Percent would equal 40 lbs of weight loss bringing that person down to 160 lbs. Because Carvalho Healthcare incorporates a holistic weight-loss program, our results are higher than what is shown in studies. We have consistently seen 10-12 lbs of weight loss per month. This is because our program includes diet and exercise counseling.
What is Tirzepatide
Tirzepatide is a newer medication that is more effective for weightloss than semaglutide. It is unique in that it is a first-in-class medicine that activates both the Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptors.
How does Tirzepatide work?
Tirzepatide works much like semaglutide in that it decreases blood sugar, decreases stomach emptying, and decreases blood sugar. The GIP hormone in the medication is shown to suppress appetite and increase energy expenditure, which means you burn more calories at rest and on exertion.
Safety and Side Effects
Like semaglutide Tirzepatide is known to be safe for most patients. Less then 10% of patients experience side effects. With nausea being the most reported side effect.
Tirzepatide side effects can include:
Substantial weight loss was achieved on lower doses of tirzepatide: 35 pounds for the 5 mg dose, 49 pounds for the 10 mg dose, 52 pounds on 15mg dose.
Both semaglutide and Tirzepatide show promise not only in improving metabolic health, reducing hemaglobin A1C (hbA1C), and assisting with weight loss, Studies show it may reduce the likelihood of cardiovascular events such as heart attack or stroke and improve cardiovascular outcomes across the board.
Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are impactful enough that they can help lower your set point: the weight your body naturally settles at due to an interplay of genetics, biology, and environment. In other words, you’ll lose weight and keep it off for the long haul. The goal of weight loss with these medications is to lose weight and keep it off. It would be silly to prescribe a medication for patients to lose weight, only to gain it back. We give you all the tools you need to be successful. Carvalho Healthcare advises on the science of weight loss, importance of incorporating healthy habits, and importance of making better food choices as well as being physically active.
What is phentermine
Phentermine is a prescription medication that’s used to help people lose weight alongside diet and exercise, especially those who are considered obese or have weight-related medical problems. It’s typically prescribed for short-term use.
How Does Phentermine Work?
Phentermine belongs to a class of drugs called sympathomimetic amines, which are also known as appetite suppressants. It works by affecting the central nervous system to help you feel fuller, reduce your appetite, and decrease hunger. The exact mechanism is not entirely understood, but it’s thought to increase levels of certain neurotransmitters in your brain that help regulate mood and appetite. This can lead to a decrease in how much you eat, which can help with weight loss.
Side Effects of Phentermine
Like all medications, phentermine can cause side effects, though not everyone will experience them. Common side effects include:
We may prescribe natural supplements that assist in weight loss, as well as a combination medication for more efficacy.
